Legislative Update: Rep. Millie Hamner
At the Statehouse, my second bill passed the House today and moved onto the Senate. This bill, HB16-1083 amends the admission standard of Western State Colorado University from “moderately selective” to “selective,” which changes the index score for Western from 80 to 92 or higher. Index scores are based on the 3-year average of median high school grade point average and the median college entrance exam score of students admitted. The higher index score puts Western on a level playing field with UC-Boulder, CSU-Fort Collins, UC-Denver, UC-Colorado Springs, UNC, Fort Lewis College, and Colorado Mesa University.
My priorities for the session remain focused on addressing healthcare rates on the Western Slope, re-defining the way that we finance our schools so that every student has an equitable share of education funding, addressing funding issues for transportation, and making sure that my colleagues and I on the Joint Budget Committee can deliver a constitutionally required balanced budget. |
