Blue Sage 2015/16 Concert Series, Impressionism:
Music for Piano Quartet
Location: Blue Sage Center for the Arts, 226 Grand Ave. Paonia, CO
Date: Saturday, October 17th, 2015, 7:30 PM
The Blue Sage’s 2015-16 Concert Series is pleased to announce a program featuring music for piano quartet showcasing works by Mozart, Gabriel Fauré and Hungarian composer Ernő Dohnányi. The 2015/16 Concert Series continues on Saturday, October 17th with a visit to the period of Impressionism. Join the performers as they travel back in time to experience a burgeoning genre where the industrial revolution breaks the world wide open and communication allows music from around the world to influence concepts of harmony and rhythm. Gabriel Fauré’s evocative and virtuosic Piano Quartet in C Minor focuses on painting a landscape of the everyday as well as a world in a state of rapid technological evolution and flux. The Blue Sage’s Artistic Director of Classical Music, Susan Ellinger (piano) will be joined by CU Boulder School of Music string faculty members Charles Wetherbee (violin), Erika Eckert (viola) and David Requiro (cello) for this unique performance.
Susan Ellinger comments on the repertoire for this concert: “The Piano Quartet is a very exciting ensemble consisting of violin, viola, cello and piano resulting in a miniature orchestra since it represents most of the string sections and has a very lush, full sound. Composers will then couple that with the virtuosity of the piano and what you end up with are mini piano concertos but without the intense focus on the piano. Certainly there is a lot of flashy writing for the piano, but it also really serves to fill out the rest of the ‘orchestra’ in this case. Piano Quartet is one of my favorite classical chamber ensemble configurations and I’m very excited to work with UC Boulder School of Music Faculty again on this concert.”
Tickets are available at the Blue Sage Gallery located at 226 Grand Avenue in Paonia or by calling (970) 527-7243 and online at Brown Paper Tickets.
